Day Six

Meiji Shrine

Tori of Meiji Shrine & Barrels of Sake

After our morning breakfast in our hotel, we went to Meiji Shrine. As it was a Saturday, they were many people of all walks of lives. We went touring around the Shrine after taking a group photo under the Tori of Meiji Shrine.

We were told to spot a Japanese wedding in the Shrine. And we have to be observant enough to find one. We were lucky. There were many wedding ceremony going on in the Shrine. Everybody was excited and started taking photos. Mr. Ong told us that if we noticed carefully, the children who attended the wedding ceremony wore their school uniform to the ceremony. This is because they feel that it is much more appropriate to wear their school uniform.

Harajuku
After touring Meiji Shine, we went to Harajuku. We were given a sum of money and had to shop for the upcoming bazaar. look at all these ‘aunties’ buying the stuff :DDD

Yasukuni Shrine
Yasukuni Shrine is a place where Japanese goes to honor their World War 2 soldiers. You wouldn’t be surprise if you can’t find any Chinese or Korean tourist. That night, the teachers and us had discussed about the WW2 and the different perspective the Japanese and the Chinese, Korean had felt. We did not take any pictures as they did not allow photo taking in there.

Shibuya

That evening, we went to Shibuya to shop. Shibuya is popular shopping district among teenagers. To our surprise, we found the things there very expensive. In the end, we did not buy as much items as the teachers. Too bad...So sad...*sigh*

Although the things there are kinda expensive, Shermaine still can’t resist it!
She had NEEDED to buy something cause all are so KAWAII!
Finally, she saw something she liked…
A hat (sort of)
Here it is!

Just to add on... i learnt from my japanese tutors that it is not uncommon to find Japanese kids wearing their school uniform for formal settings such as wedding and funerals as school uniforms are considered the formal clothes for kids, just like long sleeved shirt and ties are considered formal clothes for men for us...

you see this quite commonly in japanese dramas too (of course, budget could also be one reason why the kids are always in school uniform in japanese dramas)...

Oh yeah, one particular example would be from the drama series, "crying out love, in the the center of world". the leading actor wore his full school uniform to the funeral of his girlfriend, oh by the way, he has more than one set of clothes in the drama so it is not due to budget-constrains that he is wearing his school uniform.

it's interesting that the japanese has such high regard for their school uniform, maybe it's in their culture, they are a very group-minded people and they like to associate themselves with the organizations they belong to... but it's pretty understandable where you belong to, tell much about your social standing...

so do wear your own school uniform with pride as you should be proud to belong to our school...

just my observation... mr ong.
